We were recently asked to source a replacement 110 kW, 2-pole, V1 (flange-mounted, shaft-down) Zone 1 Ex db IIB motor that was out of frame—a unit you can’t simply swap for a standard Ex db stock motor.

Through our network with Brook Crompton and ATB, we have direct access to a premium European hazardous-area manufacturing facility. Here, their engineers have the expertise to adapt motors, either electrically or mechanically, to match original specifications while meeting the strict safety requirements of flameproof zones.

For this job, we reviewed the customer’s nameplate, serial details, and data, and compared ATB’s proposal against the existing motor—confirming an exact replacement that matched the original frame size and mounting.

As a result, the customer avoided having to alter the application to suit the shaft mounting of the Ex db stock motor, preventing unplanned downtime and additional costs.
