The Brook Crompton WEX3 Flameproof Motor is a European-manufactured IE3 motor designed for reliable operation in Zone 1 hazardous areas. Certified to both ATEX and IECEx standards, the WEX3 is an ideal choice for new installations, upgrades and direct replacements where safety and reliability are critical.

Available from 0.37–200kW, the range includes Ex db IIB T4 Gb and Ex db IIC T4 Gb protection, with Ex db eb variants providing increased safety protection within the terminal box.

WEX3 FLAMEPROOF BENEFITS

Multi-Mount

The unique Flexi-Mount design allows the terminal box to be positioned on the top, left or right by simply adjusting the feet.

Foot-mounted motors can also be converted to flange-mounted configurations from stock, reducing modification lead times and simplifying installation.

Stock Modifications

Supplied with heaters and thermistors as standard, many WEX3 motors can be quickly modified to Ex db IIC certification.

This helps reduce lead times by avoiding the need for factory-built alternatives.

Yes. Although the W-EF hazardous area motor range has been discontinued, the Brook Crompton WEX3 is a suitable replacement. Provide us with the details from your existing motor nameplate and we’ll identify the correct replacement. If you’d rather keep your current W-EF motor, we can also supply spare parts to help keep it running.

Yes. The WEX3 can be used with variable speed drives when correctly specified, with suitable derating applied depending on the operating requirements.

EEx d is the legacy European marking used on older hazardous area motors, while Ex db is the current classification under the latest ATEX and IECEx standards. Although the marking has changed, both refer to flameproof protection. If you’re replacing an older EEx d motor, BAWCo can identify the correct Ex db replacement from the motor nameplate.
