Welcome to the Bradford Armature Winding Company, established in 1919. Our mission was to be able to service and rewind all types of AC and DC electric motors. One hundred years later, our expertise gained in this industry is now incomparable. We have expanded into a sizeable team of experienced, qualified engineers and industry professionals. Our head office is currently located at Bowling Old Lane, Bradford, West Yorkshire. Our customer support team are consistently available and ready to answer any customer inquiries.
Since 1919
We are a medium-sized business working with a very broad customer base, located all over the world, across many different sectors including oil and gas, petrol & chemicals, food & beverage, building services, air handling and more. We deal with orders of one-off quantities and hundreds of quantities equally. Big or small, we are always here to provide our services. We treat all companies and individual requests with the high-quality standard you would expect. Our reputation which has been built up over the last century of business is incomparable.
After more than a century of trading, The Bradford Armature Winding Company provides key services to industry in a variety of fields. Our facilities hold extensive stocks of electric motors, primarily Brook Crompton, at sites in West Yorkshire and on Teesside. Offering immediate access to low voltage motors up to 400kw and a variety of 3.3kv motors. BAWCO now holds a range of IP20 Leroy Somer inverter drives in stock, as well as offering more complex bespoke products such as Transformers & Control Gear. BAWCO is a distributor of Pujol, Leroy Somer and SEW Eurodrive geared products and Sacemi, Lowara and Grundfos pumps. Additionally, we manufacture a range of transformers and chokes to meet customer specifications and offers a repair service to suit. The Bradford repair facility continues to service industry, using our fleet of vehicles to collect AC and DC motors, generators and alternators from locations nationwide. OUR MISSION
The Bradford Armature Winding Company strives to be the best it can be. We were originally founded over a century ago in 1919, by Mr Lawn and Mr Smith whose mission was to become to UK industry leaders in electrical motors of all types, including both AC and DC, providing many different products & services which weren’t readily available at the time. This includes our technical expertise in the Rewinds & Repairs service for electric motors. Our experience and knowledge in this industry is now second to none. Over the last 50 years, we have evolved and added to our abilities by now also being able to product high-quality Transformers, Generator repairs, Gearboxes, Pump Services and more. You’ll definitely notice the difference when servicing & purchasing from us – a century of experience and knowledge speaks for itself.
OUR Vision
We began in the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire when two eager young individuals known as Mr Lawn & Mr Smith came together with the vision of providing the biggest and most extensive range of both Ac and DC motors which weren’t just exceptional in quality, but also economically reliant and affordable. Our success today is built upon this powerful foundation. Bradford Armature Winding Company has been incredibly successful in this industry from the very beginning with detailed understanding the principles of electric motor industry, combining them with innovative ideas and technology.
History & Achievements
Since our beginning in 1919 our goal has always been to provide the biggest and most extensive range of AC and DC motors which are of exceptional quality and brilliant value for money. Bradford Armature Winding Company’s success is built on understanding the principles of electric motor industry, combining them with innovative ideas and technology.
This picture was taken in the 1950’s to commemorate the opening of our new building which was located on Manchester Road (back when the roads were made of cobble!). We had made significant advancements in the industry and needed a bigger, better place to call home.
In the late 1960’s, after many years of planning, demolition and head-scratching – our brand new building on Bowling Old Lane was finally complete. This building was purpose built for the industry we were in, allowing us to work efficiently to repair and sell electric motors. We’d even left areas of the site available for us to build and expand on. Our current headquarters are still located within this custom-designed building.
The Bradford Armature Winding Company was officially awarded a certificate by
Alcumus ISOQAR to certify that BAWCO meets and complies with the requirements of ISO 9001: 2015.
The Bradford Armature Winding Company was officially presented a prestigious award from the Yorkshire Air Museums Dakota Team for generously supporting them and providing help. BAWCO provided the starter motors which were used on the Dakota Air plane.
BAWCO was officially awarded a Certificate of Membership from The Association of Electrical and Mechanical Trades. This was a huge breakthrough as it allowed us to expand our supply of AEMT products. The certificate entitled us to become an approved member of AEMT.
